City of Winston-Salem: Creating Opportunities in the Manufacturing and Health Care Sectors
The City of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, partnered with the National Resource Network in March 2016 to analyze the local labor market and identify opportunities to develop and improve career pathways for youth and adults, particularly in the health care and manufacturing sectors.
While unemployment had declined and was comparable to unemployment across the state of North Carolina, nearly a quarter of Winston-Salem residents lived in poverty. The Network conducted an analysis of the Winston-Salem economy, with a particular focus on the manufacturing and healthcare sectors.
The Network’s final report provided an overview of demographic and key sector trends and recommended that Winston-Salem create more alignment between programs and initiatives, upskill the talent pool, and diversify the manufacturing and health care sectors.
The Network’s engagement team in Winston-Salem was led by Network consortium member Jobs for the Future.
