Scranton board spends six minutes talking about finance

A discussion about Scranton School District finances took six minutes Monday night. Pressured by fellow directors, President Bob Sheridan scheduled the meeting so the board could learn about the ongoing financial analysis being conducted by Public Financial Management Group. But neither a representative from PFM nor district Superintendent Alexis Kirijan, Ed.D., could attend.

Instead, Director Cy Douaihy read from handouts and spoke about the meeting he and two other directors had with PFM last month. “They asked us what we think our big problems are,” Douaihy said. Those problems include rising pension costs and cuts in state funding, he said.
