The National Resource Network empowers local government leaders from economically challenged communities to take on their toughest problems. We partner with cities to provide cross cutting technical assistance, strategic planning and implementation support for economic turnaround and resilient recovery.
From Richmond, California, to Providence, Rhode Island, many cities across the nation continue to face significant economic challenges. These cities – and the people who live there – are essential to the nation’s economic future. With the right leaders, collaborating partners, new ideas and bold actions, these cities can develop sustainable solutions to their most pressing issues.
With the decline of tobacco and textiles, Danville, Virginia, lost twenty percent of its population between 1990 and 2010. After succeeding at steps to revitalize the River District, the City partnered with the network to create a first-ever community development corporation. Then, partnering with the City and Danville Public Schools, the Network developed multi-year financial plans designed to increase investment in public education.
