Anchor Institutions and Food Systems: A Recipe for Economic Growth

Through its work in Boston, Detroit, Baltimore and Providence, Rhode Island, the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) has gained a unique perspective on the relationship between anchors and food systems, along with a profound appreciation of the ability of the former to catalyze growth in the latter. Here, the authors present an examination of the potential for anchors to provide leadership in their cities to grow their local food systems and to create value for themselves and their communities.
